A SUICIDAL Accrington man was talked down after threatening to jump from the roof of a shopping centre car park.

The 25-year-old was threatening to jump from the top floor of Accrington’s Arndale Centre.

However, he was convinced to come back to safety by two police officers.

The incident occurred shortly after 10.30am on Friday.

After police managed to coax down the man, he was taken to the mental health crisis team at the Royal Blackburn Hospital for treatment.

Over recent years Accrington’s Arndale Centre has become a hotspot for suicidal jumpers despite the installation of barriers to prevent it.

Last month, a 20-year-old man died after falling 80ft from the roof of the multi-storey town centre car park into the service yard used by delivery drivers.
