A COUNCIL competition for residents to save on their council tax bill has become a rollover.

Hyndburn Council’s Cashback Challenge means residents can receive the cashback equivalent to Hyndburn’s element of their council tax if the borough recycles 200,000 tonnes of waste.

Leader Miles Parkinson said: “Even though the overall target of 200 tonnes has not yet been met, residents have still increased recycling by 85 tonnes.

“This is the equivalent to an extra 340,000 glass bottles or even 500,000 newspapers; an achievement that residents should be extremely proud of.”

The rollover will run until March 2013. If recycling targets are met, 40 lucky households will receive the cashback equivalent to Hyndburn’s element of their council tax.

Checks will be made after the prize draw to ensure the winners are recycling their waste.
