HYNDBURN Council is set to compulsorily purchase two houses which are holding up a major regeneration scheme.
The owner of the two properties, in Pendle Street, off Willows Lane, Accrington, said the original purchase deal with the borough fell through after the plans and prices offered changed.
This dismayed nearby residents who have faced rows of boarded-up, empty and dilapidated houses for four years. while the plan to demolish the row of two dozen houses on one side of Pendle Street was in limbo.
Hyndburn Council deputy leader Clare Pritchard said: “The houses are unfit and showing signs of minor movement. However, there is no immediate danger and the council is inspecting the houses regularly to ensure they remain safe. The council will be proceeding with a Compulsory Purchase Order in the near future to acquire the two remaining houses.”
