Accrington shopping area closes for works
2:10pm Thursday 15th November 2012 in Hyndburn
HIGHWAY investigation works will temporarily close one of Accrington’s main shopping streets during periods between November 19 and 25.
Lancashire County Council is carrying out the works on the entrance to Broadway at its junction with Whalley Road, which will also include footpath repairs.
A road closure will be put in place on those days when it is deemed necessary to do so. It is expected that the most likely closure dates will be November 19 and 20. The timing of the works may be changed if weather conditions prove not to be suitable.
The car park on Broadway between Cornhill and Whalley Road be closed and drivers are asked not to park vehicles in areas where work is being undertaken. Further information will be displayed in the area when work is under way.
Access for pedestrians and emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Councillor Peter Britcliffe criticised the timing of the work – before Christmas.
He said: “Let us hope this work does not take too long as Accrington needs this at the moment like it needs a hole in the head.”
