East Lancashire striking doctors will lose day’s pay

DOCTORS who take part in today’s national strike over pensions will have their pay withheld by East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust.

Ian Brandwood, human resources director for ELHT, said: “Whilst the trust respects an individual’s right to take part in the industrial action, it will potentially affect their pay.

"Those doctors that do take part will have their full pay withheld for that day.

“We do recognise however that a number of doctors who take part in the action will be undertaking urgent or emergency work in accordance with the BMA guidance.

“The allocation of this work, such as helping out in the emergency department or Urgent Care Centre, and any cancellation of elective work, will be directed by divisional teams.

“Those doctors that have indicated they are taking industrial action but undertake emergency or urgent work will be required to submit a timesheet for the day to their divisional director.”

Quite right too, hold their pay for a month for the disruption, it's hard enough to see a doctor these days

They often have polls that can't be answered with a yes or no, give them credit though, they are bound to get it wrong sometimes, most of them seem semi literate at best.

If they withdrew their services for a month, I wonder what you would be saying then? Nothing like people sticking together to upset the Tory establishment. The government have been warned.

Are you saying that they have so little regard for the general public that they'd be willing to do that? And they think the public would be behind them if they did?

Let's be honest; many GPs are on quite phenomenal wages. Factor in their pensions and it really does become obscene. Things can't carry on the way they are, there just isn't the money.

Labour created huge unsustainable spending, based on our children's and our children's children's future. Meanwhile the government gets hammered for having to face the financial reality. Meanwhile the doctors think it's their God given right to blackmail the public so they keep their quite remarkably amazing pensions just as they are, regardless of any real life goings on in the financial world.

"Markets crashed? We don't care we still want money, money, money. Let muggins in the street pay. Who cares if they have no money. We'll even put them out by striking."

And why shouldn't they? Everyone is greedy. It's human nature. It doesn't make it right though. Why should other mugs have to pay doctor's unrealistic pensions, when they are struggling themselves, and have little to no pension though?

Most 50 year olds in the private sector have pensions so bad it won't get them over the poverty line! But doctors feel they should stamp their feet and put these people out because they want to keep their obscene unfair pensions and that's just that.

Sorry, but people just want fairness, that's all. Why can't the doctors understand that? They are supposed to be intelligent people.

Jack Herer If you could remove the libdem rose coloured specs for a while. Your ill informed attacks on Labour show just how much you don't get what the strike is about.
Would Doctors or nurses strike for a month I don't think so. However many of them are leaving these shores to countries who appreciate their skills more than we do. As for them being greedy I think you will find they are defending their rights, if you read the agreement you will see the government are trying to stuff them over and they are having none of it. so get real Jack we want fair play all round. you can harp back to labour spending, but the financial crisis started in America, then Iceland and the rest is history. But don,t forget the 18 years of Tory misrule. who lost my pension on black Wednesday, Remember the Exchange rate Mechanism fiasco, how much did that cost Jack?
So none of the major parties can claim any sort of moral victory but they are still the better option than the Lib Dem Traitors. Your party has no mandate to rule at any level, You have reneged on every so called promise and principal your party ever had for a sniff of power.
