VOLUNTEERS from East Lancashire are being sought to trial a health product that aims to reduce high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Clitheroe-based firm Works with Water Nutraceuticals is looking for people to join a group called the Heart Health Forum, based in Blackburn, which meets to discuss health issues.
In East Lancashire alone 139,408 people suffer from high blood pressure, known as hypertension, and 232,347 with high levels of cholesterol.
The group would meet with representatives from Works with Water Nutraceuticals to look at alternative ways to manage their health problems through lifestyle changes, and share their experiences of the conditions.
The forum is set to run for four weeks and during the initial meeting members will have their blood pressure readings or cholesterol levels tested and recorded.
Volunteers will take a natural soluble dietary supplement twice a day every day for four weeks.
At the close of the trial, each person taking part will have their levels re-tested to see if there has been a change. Blood pressure readings will be taken using a blood pressure monitor.
Cholesterol levels are to be taken using a self-testing kit, which will be supervised.
This involves a small pinprick to the skin, to draw a blood sample which is absorbed on to a test trip to give a cholesterol reading.
Jules Birch, founder of Works With Water Nutraceuticals, said: “We are really keen to recruit people from the region to trial our products and see how these, along with important diet and lifestyle changes, can have a real impact in helping to reduce blood pressure or manage cholesterol, and ultimately protecting against heart disease.”
If you suffer from hypertension and cholesterol and would like to be involved in the Heart Health Forum and trialling call 0844 811 8487 or email hearthealth@works withwater.co.uk
