CAMPAIGNERS fighting the closure of a walk-in centre are planning to take part in a protest walk.

Protesters are set to hike just over seven miles from Accrington Victoria Hospital’s GP centre to Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital.

The 'SAVE Accrington Walk-in centre' group hope their latest action will make East Lancashire CCG bosses reconsider their decision to close the GP centre in June.

The centre is due to close on Sunday, June 17 to be replaced by a new system of GP access in the area.

Kimberley Whitehead, campaign organiser of the group, said: "We're planning on walking from the walk-in centre to outside the grounds of Blackburn Hospital.

"People would be holding placards and can join us at the halfway stage of the walk if they don't want to do the full amount."

"The walk is being organised to hopefully get health bosses to reconsider their decision."

Other action by the group has seen them protest outside the walk-in centre, with campaigners concerned its closure will put more pressure on the A&E department at Blackburn hospital.

The action day has been planned for Saturday, May 26 between 10am and 1pm.
