PEOPLE have been asked to join the campaign to a create a world that is free from Tuberculosis (TB).

Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust have made the call to mark World TB Day on Saturday, March 24.

TB remains an epidemic globally, causing over 4,500 deaths every day, mostly in the developing world.

Helen Newsham, community TB healthcare support worker in the communicable diseases team at Lancashire Care, said: "The theme of the campaign this year is to create leaders for a TB-free world.

"We’re calling on people everywhere to come together to campaign against TB.

An infectious disease, TB mainly affects the lung and its droplets spread by coughing and sneezing.

It is fully curable with specialised antibiotic treatment, but if untreated however, it may have serious and potentially life threatening consequences for sufferers.
