STAFF at a hospitals trust have been given advice on getting to work as the nation deals with 'Storm Emma' which has hit Britain.

A number of yellow weather warnings for snow have been issued over the last few days, covering vast swathes of the UK.

It has also been predicted by forecasters that another weather system Storm Emma, will bring blizzards, gales and sleet as it meets the chilly "Beast from the East".

The storm, named by the Portuguese Met Service, will move north through Europe and hit the UK yesterday (Thursday) and today (Friday), and is expected to be "significantly disruptive", bringing the risk of power cuts and transport delays.

Due to this, East Lancashire Hospitals Trust bosses have reminded staff to check the trust's adverse weather policy for guidance.

They said this can be viewed on the staff Intranet or by asking a manager to share it with them.

The advice comes as health chiefs also warned of the 'increased' risk of heart attack and stroke

For assistance getting to work because of the weather conditions, staff should call the control room on 01254 734282, who may be able to help.
