PLANS for a new home for Burnley’s main ambulance station continue apace.
The bid would see Burnley’s Dent Row station relocated, operating in future out of new ‘satellite’ premises to the back of the Burnley General Teaching Hospital site, according to NWAS (North West Ambulance Service).
Ambulance chiefs said the current station is ‘no longer fit for purpose’ and are in the planning stages of building the new ‘purpose-built station’.
Once planning permission has been approved, bosses hope to build the new ambulance station between eight to 12 months.
A spokesperson for NWAS said: “As the current Burnley ambulance station is no longer fit for purpose we are in the planning stages of building a new purpose built ambulance station at the site of Burnley Hospital.
“We are currently finalising details with the council’s planning department and subject to permission we would expect the build to take approximately eight to twelve months.”
The plan is part of a major shake-up of ambulance services in East Lancashire, which will also see a new ambulance ‘hub’ at a fresh location in the Phillips Road area of Blackburn, replacing the current station and workshops in George Street West.
