AN Alzheimer’s sufferer turned viral sensation is set to realise his dream as he releases his first album.

Last year footage of Teddy McDermott, from Blackburn, singing in the car with his son Simon went viral, raising more than £150,000 for charity.

The 81-year-old was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2013 and earned the nickname ‘The Songaminute Man’ for his series of videos.

He released his first single ‘You Make Me Feel So Young’ last year and after a successful crowdfunding campaign raising £55,000 he is launching his first album.

Titled #SONGAMINUTE it is being released tomorrow to coincide with World Alzheimer’s Day.

Simon, 41, said: “It’s been an experience recording it all, we’ve worked with some of the best musicians.

“It’s been worth it all.

“I think my dad will be happy with it.

“He’s always singing 24/7.

“The tracks are based on Dad’s backing tracks which provided the soundtrack to my life growing up in Blackburn.”

The album features the Guy Barker Orchestra performing 13 hit songs with Teddy.

Songs include renditions of Al Martino classic Here In My Heart, Frank Sinatra’s I’ve Got You Under My Skin, love songs such as How Deep Is The Ocean, and the Nat King Cole number L.O.V.E.

It also features a version of the Quando, Quando, Quando track that made him famous.

Teddy had a lifelong passion for singing and was a Butlin’s Redcoat, who then travelled around the country, singing in pubs and clubs.

Audio staff who have worked with some of the biggest stars around the world helped put the album together.

Grammy Award winning audio engineers Steve Price, who features on albums by Adele and Sam Smith, and Tim Young, who worked with Elton John and Queen, mixed the album.

Additionally 25 per cent of any profits will go direct to The Alzheimer’s Society to fund research.

The album will be available to buy at The Mall, Blackburn at the information points for £10.99 from tomorrow.
