A MIDWIFE has been named as the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust Employee of the Month.

Eileen Whitehead, from Reedley, was handed the award after “going above and beyond” and was nominated by colleagues.

Mrs Whitehead, who works as a midwife educator and clinical skills facilitator, was singled out for her “helpful and conscientious” approach to work.

She said: “It’s very exciting to have received the employee of the month award for January.

“I really enjoy working at the trust and supporting its ethos through my work with medical students.

“It’s amazing to have been picked out from all those people. I didn’t think I was doing anything special – I was just going about my job.

“Thank you very much for my nomination and I’m extremely pleased to have won this award.”

Mrs Whitehead was presented with a certificate from a member of the executive board.

A spokesman for the trust said that Mrs Whitehead “strives to ensure that all family care medical students carry out their clinical research with the upmost professionalism, as well as enthusiasm”.

He added that she demonstrates a “great commitment” to safe, personal and effective care by ensuring the medical students that she works with fully understand the ethos.

As part of her job, Mrs Whitehead creates bespoke teaching programmes to best fit the needs of the students and works with them until they feel confident and competent.

Kevin McGee, chief executive at the trust, presented Eileen with her award at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

He said: “The employee of the month award gives all staff the opportunity to nominate those people they work with who go the extra mile in their role in dealing with patients and staff.

“Eileen has done a brilliant job working with other members of staff and supporting them in their roles.

“It’s really a credit to the trust to have somebody as hard working and committed to our goals, working here. Eileen understands and demonstrates quality working activities and consistently delivers excellent results through training and supporting others.”
