THREE hospital bosses have been recognised as ‘inspirational leaders’ after being shortlisted for a regional NHS award.

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust (ELHT) was one of just two acute organisations in the North West to achieve three nominations for the NHS Leadership awards in Liverpool next month.

Anita Fleming, head of midwifery and deputy chief nurse, and human resources director Kevin Moynes are in line for the main inspirational leader award, while occupational therapy boss Pauline Johnston has been shortlisted in the ‘development champion’ section.

Anita’s work has already helped the trust be named ‘maternity service of the year’ by the Royal College of Midwives, while Kevin has overseen a major recruitment drive in the last year, which has helped the trust approach its full nursing establisment.

Pauline has developed a number of projects and resources which have contributed to higher staff retention rates and lower staff sickness levels.

The news will provide a futher boost to the Royal Blackburn and Burnley General hospitals, which were released from special measures in July after inspectors recognised significant imporvements had been made in several areas.

Chief executive Kevin McGee said: "We are delighted to have been shortlisted for such highly prestigious awards. Having three staff nominated is testament to the overall strength of the trust and the number of inspirational leaders we have on our team.

“I believe good leadership skills help create a culture where everyone feels valued and where every member of the ELHT team understands the important role they play in providing safe, effective healthcare for the local population we serve.”

The awards ceremony will be in Liverpool on November 19.
