A MAN who kept his cannabis hidden in a shoe box at a friend's house did the "honourable thing" after police executed a drugs search warrant at her home.

Blackburn magistrates heard that Christopher Poynton went to the police station and admitted the cannabis was his and said nobody else had been aware of its presence in the house.

Poynton, 20, of St James Street, Darwen, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis. He was fined £50.

Roger Pickles, defending, said Poynton had grown up with his family and friends all using cannabis on a recreational basis.

"When he became aware this person had their house raided and she was being blamed for his cannabis he did the decent thing," said Mr Pickles.

"He courageously told the police he didn't want to see an injustice."
