A 20-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with being drunk and disorderly following reports of public drinking in the grounds of Blackburn Cathedral.
Karl Sharples, of Hope Street, Darwen, will appear before Blackburn Magistrates Court on May 16.
Onlookers said up to 40 people were drinking in the grounds - which are covered by a public drinking ban - on Wednesday afternoon.
Cathedral staff were left to clear up the mess, including empty beer cans, the following morning because council street cleaners were on strike.
