A POLISH immigrant has admitted a sex attack on a teenager celebrating her 18th birthday.

Butcher Krysztof Lobodo, 20, who was living in Colne at the time of the incident on May 13, pleaded to attempted rape when he appeared before Burnley Crown Court.

Police said he followed the girl as she walked home at 2.30am after an evening out in a town centre nightclub with friends, trailing her along Skipton Road in the town, then grabbing and attacking her at the street's junction with Norfolk Street.

He subjected her to a serious sexual assault, and tried to rape her, but fled when the girl shouted and fought him off, police said.

Lobodo was arrested shortly afterwards, after a neighbour contacted police at around 3am.

He was remanded in custody then and has remained in prison. After admitting the charge at Burnley Magistrates Court yesterday, he was sent to jail again to await sentencing in October.

Sergeant John Fryer, of Colne police, said that Lobodo was likely to be deported back to Poland after serving his sentence.

He said: "This was an awful incident and the only fortunate thing about it is that the girl did not suffer any serious physical injury and she managed to fight him off.

"Incidents like this are rare, and I'm glad that here we have been able to quickly catch the man responsible and that he has admitted the attack."
