Profile:
Health
Under a Conservative Government, spending will increase every year. Labour have trebled spending on the NHS but too much of this has been wasted. If elected we would protect local services, cut waste and abolish Labour’s infamous targets. We will also improve maternity care by providing 4,200 health care visitors across the country.
Education
Labour has failed parents in Streatham. Money has flowed in but we still have a huge shortage of school places. A Conservative government would promote a new generation of state schools founded by parents, businesses and teachers instead. We will restore discipline by giving heads more power and raise both teaching and school standards. We will fund 10,000 extra university places and create 100,000 apprenticeships.
Economy and jobs
Brown said he had abolished boom and bust but we experienced the deepest and longest recession on record and this has really affected Streatham residents. Labour can't be trusted on the economy. National debt is set to reach £1.4 trillion by 2014. We will deal with the deficit more quickly than Labour. Conservatives will also stop Labour's tax on jobs.
Crime
Crime is a real issue in Streatham and residents regularly contact me about the level of antisocial behaviour. That's why we would get more police on the street tackling crime instead of filling in paperwork. We will radically overhaul the licensing system to allow the police to clamp down on antisocial drinking more effectively. Conservatives will also keep our local police stations open.
Transport
Our transport system needs to be more efficient and provide better value for money. I would lobby government and the Mayor of London to get the improvements that local residents and business need. It would be great to get Streatham on the tube as well. A Conservative government would build a revolutionary high speed rail line linking London with Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds.
The Environment
The protection of our urban environment is one of my main priorities. In Streatham, we have some great green spaces. They are the green lungs at the heart of the community but they need protecting. A third runway at Heathrow would be terrible for the environment and would really affect quality of life for local people.
