Pupils and staff at Stonyhurst are celebrating their A-Level results with 67% of this year’s grades A* - B grades.

This result is only just short of last year’s record-breaking year for the college.

42% of the Stonyhurst pupils achieved all A*/As compared to the national average of 27%.

The UCAS points total is 358 which equals the best performance from last year.

Geography, History and German all achieved a 100% A*- B grades, with Theatre Studies, Further Mathematics, Chemistry and Economics all gaining over 80% A*- B grades.

Individually there are some wonderful performances with no fewer than 16 candidates (15% of students) achieving 3 or more straight A*/A grades.

Joe Weld-Blundell from Chipping achieved his goal of reading Engineering at Oxford with two other students gaining places at Cambridge.

Headmaster Andrew Johnson said: "We are very proud of the achievements of all our pupils and staff.

"We continue to do well in the academic subjects that top flight universities are most interested in, and once again our A-Level candidates performed well across the board, both those with the top results and those from whom more modest results were expected.

"We wish all our pupils every success as they go on to their university courses and go out into the world to be men and women for others."
