EAST Lancashire has seen record A-level results – and here colleges pick out their most outstanding pupils.

Burnley College Lucy Durkin got an A*, A and B. She will now study midwifery at the University of Manchester.

Nathan Bend achieved an A*, A and B in his history, business studies and ICT and heads to the University of Leeds to study history.

Nelson and Colne College Emily Boocock, of Winewall, got an A* and two As and will read classics at Corpus Christi College, Oxford.

Emily Cannon, of Barnoldswick, who has gained 4 As, will study history at Pembroke College Oxford University.

Nabila Azam, a former student of Marsden Heights, achieved an A* and two As and is going to study optometry at the University of Manchester.

Sahira Khurshid is off to study medicine at Lancaster University after getting an A* and two As in her A-levels including biology, chemistry and psychology.

Emma Mitchell got an A* and two As and heads to King’s College London to read Maths.

Thomas Whitham Sixth Form Brogan Robertson, Aisha Hashmi, Holly O’Brien and Tanya Mussawer all achieved three A/A* grades Daniel Byrne, Lewis Foster, Alexandra Wood, Safia Bibi, Tom Medley and Sohail Marcola achieved two A*s.

St Mary’s College Patrick Scott,18, of Whalley, got two A*s in history and English language and literture plus three A grades in mathematics, physics and critical thinking. He is off to Worcester College, Oxford Univesity to read English John Bolton, 18, of Burnley, gained two A*s in mathematics and further mathematics with an extra A grade in computing and an A grade for mathematics in his advanced extension award.

Sajeel Khan, 18, of Blackburn, got two A*s in chemistry and Information and commun-ication technology plus a further two A grades in Biology and Mathematics.

Peter Kellaway, 18, of Whalley, achieved two A*s in mathematics and further mathematics plus an A grade in economics. Peter is off to Durham University to read Natural Sciences Mohammed Rafiq, from Blackburn, got two A*s in chemistry and mathematics plus an A grade in mathematics. He heads to Manchester University to study Pharmacy Tom Waddington,18, of Blackburn gained two A*s in graphics and digital photography with another A grade in physics. Tom is off to Liverpool University to study Architecture.

Twins Annie and Joe Barnes gained A,A,A and A*,A,A repsectively and are both going on the study at Leeds University Twins Rebecca and Charlotte Gregory got A*, A,A and A*, A, B respectively. Rebecca is going to study history at Newcastle University while Charlotte will be reading English Language with linguistics at Sheffield University. Daniel Haydon gained three A*s in maths, physics and art and an A in chemistry and will be studying physics and Astronomy at Durham University.
