Burnley youths taught martial arts to combat nuisance

YOUTHS in Burnley combated holiday boredom by completing a free martial arts summer school.

The six-week course was set up by PCSO Catherine Horner, from the Queensgate ward.

Fourteen young people in total signed up for the introduction to martial arts, hosted at the Pendle Martial Arts Academy, in Brierfield.

A free uniform and insurance for a year were provided for students and, on successful completion of the course, students were graded to red belt status.

PCSO Horner said: “The main aim of the course was to reduce anti-social behaviour in the Queensgate area.

“The course has been a huge success and it has been great teaching and getting to know the children.

“Hopefully this will be the first of many of these types of events,” she added.

Pendle Martial Arts Academy trains six days a week in many different types of martial arts and everybody is welcome.
