East Lancashire men honoured by university

A FORMER Blackburn College lecturer and the benefactor behind a Darwen school will receive honorary degrees from Manchester Metropolitan University.

Business innovator Professor Richard Thorpe worked at Blackburn College from 1983 to 1987 teaching management studies. He went on to spend 20 years at the university and was instrumental in setting up its business school.

Also receiving an honorary degree, on July 16, is Sir Rod Aldridge, chairman of the Aldridge Foundation, which funded Darwen Aldridge Community Academy.
