A PRIMARY school was transformed into an airport to launch a new project about China.
Year one and two children at Lammack Primary School, Blackburn, ‘flew’ to Beijing International Airport to spend a term in China where they will learn about the country’s history, geography, food, climate, culture, literacy and much more.
With a check out, passport control and a departure lounge staff the Lammack Road school turned the building into an operating airport.
Without any delays children boarded the plane in the school hall, and were given a safety demonstration before they took off for the 45 minute journey.
They ‘landed’ in China for the term long project and spent the afternoon tasting noodles, trying to eat with chopsticks and learning about Chinese instruments.
The China project has been put together after the school started following a creative curriculum.
Through this teaching style children learn life skills as well as core curriculum subjects outside the traditional classroom setting.
Assistant headteacher Kathryn McGregor said: “The staff enjoyed this as much as the children. The children packed blankets, magazines and colouring pencils for the aeroplane journey.
“Everyone had a fantastic time.
“The children were going home really enthusiastic.
“They have asked up if we will be ‘flying back’ to Manchester when the project finishes at the end of term.”
