BLACKBURN with Darwen’s first wave of diploma students are set to graduate.
The engineering diploma was the first diploma course to be introduced into schools in the borough with lessons held at Darwen Vale High School, Blackburn College and training 2000.
Students, who are set to qualify following the two year course, are already thinking about their next career move.
Since the initial introduction of the engineering diploma four higher diplomas have also been introduced in engineering, society, health and development, construction and the built environment and creative and media.
Student Sam Leyland said the course was very demanding, with a lot of team work and on the job training.
He said: “You have to put time and effort into this course, it’s not an easy option, and you need to do a lot of theory and practical work.
“There is a lot of teamwork and I think you have to push yourself more than in usual lessons, especially during classes at the college or at Training 2000.
“Employers sometimes come in to teach us and talk about jobs as well, which is really useful.”
