Darwen school lands ‘good’ Ofsted report

ST Cuthbert’s Primary School has achieved a ‘good’ overall report in its latest Ofsted inpection.

The St Alban’s Road site which has 192 pupils, takes in children in Year 1 with skills and abilities that are below average.

But achievement is good and by the end of Year 6, pupils reach broadly average standards.

Pupils are said to develop well as independent learners because, from the youngest age, they are encouraged to make choices and judgments about their own learning.

The large proportion of pupils with extra learning needs are supported particularly well within school and through the effective partnerships with outside agencies, so that they benefit equally from all the school has to offer.

Pastoral care is excellent and provides pupils with the secure and safe environment that helps them flourish.

The report also highlighted that the outstanding provision in the Early Years Foundation Stage ensures that children get off to a flying start and make good progress.

Headteacher Janet Grime said: “We are particularly pleased that the provision we have for our younger children in the Foundation Stage was rightly recognised as being outstanding.

“As we expected, the children were praised for their excellent behaviour and positive attitudes.”

Congratulations to Janet and her staff. It is a delight to see some of the children from school who attend St. Cuthbert's Church.
Carry on the good work...........I think maybe the school could take more part in the church's activities but a jolly good OFSTED report.
