CONSUMERS across Europe will soon be drinking out of cups designed by a Ribble Valley pupil.
Clitheroe-based The Paper Cup Company approached Ribblesdale High School Technology College to launch a competition for Year 9 students to design a new cold drink paper cup.
Sales director Mark Woodward said: “The majority of our sales are for hot drink paper cups, but with the increasing popularity in smoothies and milkshakes, there’s been a growing demand for cold drink cups.
“We decided to hold the competition to tap into young creative talent in the area.”
Working with Ribblesdale head of art Simon Nevett, Year 9 art students designed a cup each, and The Paper Cup Company produced sample cups to see how they looked.
The chosen winning design was by Hannah Pearson, who received a £100 cheque presented by Mr Woodward.
Her cup design will be a new stock design cup available to buy.
Mr Woodward added: “We feel it’s been a great success, so much so that we hope to extend the competition to other Lancashire schools next time.”
