ENTREPRENURIAL students beat nearly 500 schools across the UK to scoop an award for their fire safety book.

Hazardous Harry, which was written by Blessed Trinity RC College's young enterprise group, has already scooped numerous awards.

The eight-strong team from the Burnley school won the best overall company, the best trade stand and best presentation at the Lancashire Young Enterprise Awards and, at the North West finals where they represented Lancashire, they won the social enterprise prize.

Now they have scooped the national Jewson health and safety award at the Community Education Awards 2017.

The Year 10 group wrote a book on Hazardous Harry aimed at students aged three upwards.

It tells the story, in poem form, of how Hazardous Harry accidentally starts a fire while his sister is upstairs but she has learned about fire safety so she follows the procedure of calling the fire service and makes sure everyone leaves the house safely.

The idea came about after the alarm went off in school and the students had to design and organise the printing and sale of the books.

Chris Cartwright, from the Community Education Awards, said: "We were impressed with the idea of the Blessed Trinity Young Enterprise team, the time they have spent on it, especially the many hours they have spent of their own time on the book, as well as the way they have resourced how to produce it as cheaply and as well as possible."

The book is available for £3.99 from the Ormerod Road school.

They are now looking at writing another book about Harry’s sister Sensible Sally.
