A HEADTEACHER has spoken of his 'pride' after his Rossendale school was rated ‘good’ by Ofsted.

Inspectors said teaching was good in most areas at Alder Grange School in Rawtenstall and the school is ‘particularly effective in supporting pupils whose circumstances make them potentially vulnerable’.

Helen Gaunt, lead inspector, said the Calder Road school, which has 900 pupils, said they make good progress in a wide range of subjects while disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs are catching up with others.

She added teaching in the sixth form is consistently good.

Mrs Gaunt said to improve further the school needs to ensure outcomes match those for pupils nationally and provide support and training for middle leaders.

Headteacher David Hampson said: “Ofsted’s inspectors had a lot of positives and praise for the school.

“The school has been graded a ‘good’ school and now has been at least a 'good' school since 1993, something we are extremely proud of.

“The inspection framework Ofsted used has changed significantly since the last inspection in May 2013."
