PLACES are still available for a free concert celebrating new folk music produced by pupils from Lancashire schools.
The songs, created as part of the ‘When Lancashire Sings’ project, can be heard at The Guildhall in Preston, on Thursday, March 30 from 6.30pm to 9pm.
The ‘When Lancashire Sings’ project aims to inspire young people to create modern folk music through learning about their local heritage.
Pupils are working alongside staff from Lancashire County Council’s heritage learning team, local historians, the award-winning The Young’Uns folk group, and music producer Andy Bell to write and record folk songs.
The concert is being held to showcase the project, giving the pupils the opportunity to perform the eight songs they have created alongside The Young’uns.
County Cllr Marcus Johnstone, cabinet member for cultural services, said: “I am really pleased that the young people who are involved in this project will get the chance to display and be proud of what they have produced at the concert.
“Through the project, those taking part have explored Lancashire’s rich history and traditional oral storytelling." For tickets email emlancashiresings@gmail.com.
