ACADEMICS from the University of Central Lancashire, which has a Burnley campus, are celebrating after the results of the 2014 Research Excellence Framework were revealed.

All 16 academic areas submitted to REF by UCLan have been officially recognised as demonstrating elements of world-leading research.

Professor Gerry Kelleher, UCLan’s vice-chancellor, said: “UCLan’s REF results testify to the university’s significant progress in the research arena over the past five years.

“Research excellence is extremely important for UCLan in its own right as well as driving academic enterprise and enriching the experience of our students.

The research subjects internationally recognised are general engineering, modern languages and linguistics, communication, culture and media studies and physics.
