THE dance section of The Blackburn Festival of Speech Music and Dance is taking place in Darwen over the next two weekends.

Held in the Library Theatre, starting at 9.15am for all events, the first leg of the competition is on Saturday and Sunday, and concluded on May 3, 4 and 5.

Dancers range in age from the babies section, who are five, through to 18-year-olds.

Dancers come from as far as the North East and Yorkshire to perform classical ballet, national, tap, modern, character, song and dance and Greek.

There will also be International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) championship dance heats for the north of England in certain dance disciplines.

On the second weekend there will be a heat for Miss Dance of Great Britain, featuring modern dancing.

Admission is by ticket, available on the door.
