CHILDREN in Tockholes are to benefit from a £25,000 makeover of the village's playground.
Blackburn with Darwen Council has announced the spending which will improve the existing facilities next to the Rock Inn pub.
Tockholes Parish Council have been pushing for the work to be done for four years, after Lottery funding was granted for two pieces of equipment.
Geraldine Foster, parish council clerk, said: “We have slides and a see-saw at the moment, but equipment for younger children is not there.
“We also feel that any equipment we get should be up-to-date and exciting for the children, and have to check with them exactly what they want.
“It’s not only village children who go on the playground either, customers visiting the pub also have children who play there.
“Ideally we will get everything sorted out by summer.
“Play equipment is very expensive, so we think we can get about four pieces.”
Coun Michael Law-Riding, play champion for the borough, said: “Our aim is to improve the quality and play value of play spaces across Blackburn and Darwen.
“We are delighted to allocate £25,000 from the council's budget to improve the existing facilities at Tockholes and we will be working closely with the parish council and local residents, including children, to make sure we get it right for them.
“As well as upgrading some of the existing equipment we want to increase natural play, in keeping with local and national trends.
“As soon as the consultation process has been completed work will commence.”
