THE family of cancer battler Sam Shaw will continue to raise cash in his name to help other youngsters suffering from neuroblastoma.

The five-year-old was told last week by doctors that he was ‘all clear’ after 16 months of fighting.

His battle since being diagnosed in January 2013 included a four-month stay in Philadelphia, made possible by public donations to the Sam Shaw Appeal.

And now mum Christine, of Glencoe Avenue, Hoddlesden, says the fundraising for Neuroblastoma Children’s Cancer Alliance (NCCA) will continue.

She said: “We are going to keep raising money in Sam’s name but hopefully the money will never be needed by us.

“All the cash goes to the NCCA and is held in case Sam needs any further treatment.

“But if he does not, which is what we are obviously hoping for, then it will go towards helping other families in our position.”

Christine, a PA to the headteacher at Albany Academy in Chorley, said the charity had been a great support to her and husband Carl.

She said: “They were with us all the way and without the publicity and guidance they gave us we might never have reached the ambitious £250,000 target.

“We are so grateful to everyone who has helped us on this difficult journey.

“But hopefully through our experience we can raise money to help other families and children in our position.”

Christine and Carl’s lives were thrust into the media spotlight last March when they were left with no option but to launch the public appeal.

It was the only way they could raise the vast sum needed in time to get Sam to Philadelphia for the immunotherapy treatment that might have saved his life.

Christine said: “We have always been a very private family so to end up in the public eye has been quite a strange experience.

“But it has generated so much money and there have been so many events it was unreal.

"It has really brought the community together and the support has been amazing.

“We cannot thank people enough for all they have done.”
