Turton Tower opens doors for new season

TURTON Tower throws its doors open again today after a four- month winter break.

Inside the Grade 1 listed building is a collection of period oak furniture on loan from the Victoria and Albert Museum, and a large number of paintings including a portrait of William Horrocks whose family lived as tenants in the Tower.

The Victorian kitchen tea room will be open and there is free parking.

A packed programme of activities for the year include family events, craft sessions, and indoor and outdoor theatre.

Coun Michael Law-Riding said: “Once again we are opening the doors of this fine Tudor house.

"It is one of only two Grade I listed buildings in our borough and is certainly the jewel in Blackburn with Darwen’s crown.”

Forget the car park, take the train to either Entwistle or Bromley Cross, go for a walk around the reservoirs, have a pint in one of the many good pubs in the area, visit Turton Towers, and make a day of it.
