FIREFIGHTERS were called to Hoddlesden to help retrieve a cat which had been missing for five days.

A crew from Darwen was called to Bayrne Street at 2.30pm yesterday after the owners of the cat spotted it under a shed behind the cottage property.

Posters of the black cat had been put up around the area, and the owners had been searching for it yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters worked to try to reach the cat, before it ran out of its own accord."The owners were really pleased, and contacted us later to say thank you."

They called out the fire brigade to "rescue" a cat from under a shed?!

It got under there, didn't it? Did common sense not tell them it was going to be able to get out again?

Dear God.

Didn't I read somewhere that the Fire Service was no longer carrying out pet rescues due to the unnecessary expense?

What a wonderful story. Our services should be commended for rescuing this distressed animal. It makes me feel proud to be British. I feel for the owners. 5 days of not knowing where your pet is must be horrendous. If I lost my **** for 5 days I don't know what I'd do.

Elsie, how do you know it was distressed? It was just sitting under a shed, according to the story.

Sarah I think Elsies being sarcastic!

Who are these people who ring the fire brigade when there cans go missing? Get stuck up a tree etc. And it ran out of its own accord. Maybe it just wanted a break from ots over protective owners!
