A NEW project which is designed to get children reading is being launched today.

Book Ahead will see Blackburn with Darwen Council's library services loaning out books to children who use voluntary and private nurseries in the borough.

The scheme will also offer those who work with young children new resources and training.

The aim is to help nursery and workers with young children to promote reading so that the very young can discover early in their lives the joy of owning and borrowing books.

The project is a programme of three events, with the ultimate aim of improving long term links between local libraries and the voluntary and private nurseries.

Susan Law, head of cultural services, said: "These are exciting times for children and young people, and with 2008 the National Year of Reading there is no better time to launch such an inspiring initiative in the borough.

"The project will allow books to be swapped at each of the sessions and some of the books will then be gifted to the nurseries as part of the ongoing partnership between early years and Blackburn with Darwen's public library services."

Top speler,

Should you not have used a capital I in your first sentence? Your name also leaves something to be desired, should it not be Top Speller?

I hope you are not a teacher!
