A man caught out in a police crackdown on drugs has avoided jail.

Mark Holden asked an undercover officer if he wanted to "score" and sold him a wrap of heroin.

Holden, 38, of Blackburn Road, Darwen, pleaded guilty to a charge of being concerned in drug supplying.

Mr Francis McEntee, prosecuting at Preston Crown Court, said the defendant was arrested as part of Operation Nimrod, in which Lancashire Police targeted low- level supplying of Class A drugs.

Holden was given a community order involving 18 months supervision by the probation service, and 12 months drug rehabilitation.

this man is the kind of thug that belongs in prison, for years i have been reading about his violence to people including police officers and women, includeing alligations of rape, he is a danger to everyone he comes in contact with and for a judge to let him walk free with a community punishment is disgrasfull

This is getting to be beyond a joke! Its time the justice system was overhauled - A man selling drugs in Harrisburg PA has just been given a 6 yr prison sentence along with a hefty fine and 3 yr probation period when he gets out. Oh and by the way he was a first time offender.

well if he was a P4KI, they would have locked him up wont they.

So why has this guy been spared jail despite selling a dangerous, potentially lethal drug, yet just recently there was a case of someone going to jail for posessing cannabis (a harmless herb) with intent to supply?

To be honest would much rather keep prison spaces open for peado's, rapists and murderers than having some pettry drug dealer taking up all the room

I bet the copper who put his neck on the line to nail this lowlife is as frustrated as I was reading this story. What a paltry sentence, get this scumbag into jail before he turns anymore kids into junkies.

Never mind the "Hot Jobs" section above! Clearly the way to go is to sell heroin - you'll make a lot more money and won't even go to jail if you get caught! I'm starting to wonder if i'ts worth worrying that the car's a day late for it's MOT! Serious change is needed!!

The police must get fed up of actualy catching somebody, doing all the paperwork, then seeing them walk free.

WHAT ON EARTH DO YOU NEED TO DO TO GO TO JAIL?!?!?

Selling HEROIN to a policeman and you still get away with it?

I am utterly staggered by this story.

Because we do not punish offenders this country is being flushed down the toilet.

We are in a downward spiral that will only be stopped by some severe action and I am terribly sad to say that there is no political party that would make the changes necessary (well, no serious party anyway - before the BNP brigade start ranting).

I really do fear for Britain.
