BAD blood between two Darwen men ended in violence in the early hours of Christmas Day.

Magistrates watched CCTV footage showing William Hunter repeatedly punching, kicking and butting his adversary.

But defence solicitor Michael Blacklidge said the footage did not show the ill-feeling that existed between the two men and the provocation his client had faced on Christmas Eve.

William Craig Hunter, 24, of Higher Church Street, Darwen, admitted assaulting Lee Stones and breaching a conditional discharge for an assault in January 2007. He was sentenced to three months jail suspended for 12 months and made subject to community supervision.
