THE Tower Shukokai karate club from Darwen is holding a sponsored spar-athon' in aid of Derian House Children's Hospice on Monday.
The event, at Edgworth Primary School, is to celebrate club leader Andy Allwood's 25 years in martial arts. The group hopes to raise more than the £450 they got last year for a sponsored wood break.
Up to 15 people will taking part in the sparring session, expected to last an hour and starting at 7.30pm. Mr Allwood said: "Sparing is about throwing punches and kicks very slowly with an emphasis on control. We are thinking of doing it to music and changing the routines accordingly so there is variety.
"I think we will all be very tired afterwards!"
Children will also be able to take part in a sponsored sit-up and press-up event.
For details on sponsoring the event, call 01204 596199 or visit www.towershukokai.co.uk
