WORKERS on a construction site chased a thief who stole a JCB.

A man broke into the secured compound in Springvale Mill, Bury Road, Edgworth, and drove off in the JCB.

Workers in Springvale Mill saw the man fleeing in the vehicle and a group of them chased him down the road.

They ran after the JCB for half a mile down a country lane before it crashed into a blue Renault Megane.

Neither the driver of the car or the driver of the JCB were injured.

After the collision the man ran off.

Police said the man is believed to be white, in his late 30s, approximately 5ft 10inches tall, with a dark complexion. He was wearing a grey jumper and a black hat.

He was said to be unkempt looking.
