Darwen wind turbine protest to hit town hall

CAMPAIGNERS against a giant wind turbine near Bull Hill, Darwen, are to meet the leader of the council on Wednesday.

Martin Vizzard, Wayne Silver and Mark Burns, of ACT (Against Cranberry Turbine) will meet Blackburn Darwen Council’s Kate Hollern at the Town Hall to discuss bringing in guidelines for turbine development in the borough.

The group has been campaigning for months against plans to erect a turbine at Pleasant View Farm about 350 metres from homes in Cranberry Fold Court.

Applicants, the Gott family, who own the farm, applied earlier this year to erect an 88.5metre turbine but that plan was withdrawn after significant pressure from local people.

Now a new application has been submitted for a 65 metre turbine, which would see the tip of the blade higher on the skyline than the top of Darwen Tower . Wayne Silver of the campaign group said: “We are looking forward to meeting Coun Hollern and we have prepared a presentation to show her.

“She has told us she plans to bring a number of people along who have a big interest in turbines in the area.

“Our main point is that there are no proper guidelines in place for how close turbines can be to homes.”

Mr Silver said following their meeting with Coun Hollern, the group plans to hold a public meeting in the area for everyone to voice their opinions.

The group wants the council to mirror other councils, such as Milton Keynes, and introduce guidelines for all wind turbine applications.

Milton Keynes Council has banned any turbines within 1.2km of homes, while councils in Wiltshire and Lincolnshire have also imposed restrictions.

The Gott family were not available for comment.

No way, get the cables from the pylon buried and ban the telly tubby windmill. Back to a lovely view.

There are pylons and a wind turbine there already, we can see and hear both and have not complained about them.

Thanks

Not really, the views from my windows are ace.Stables with horses and farmland. I love Darwen and the surrounding countryside and consider myself very lucky to live amongst it. I don't like these mechanical monsters taking over the skyline. Especially for personal greed like the one proposed in the Cranberry area which is a beautiful place to live. Now the modern era dawns and people want to turn it into a Banksy sculpture. Lancashire countryside is famous for its views and this will ruin it completely. We get enough rain in this area to investigate water wheel generation. all we have to do is put a dam at the M65 and fill Blackburn up with water and my view would be complete, and a nice water feature to boot.

There are pylons closer to the homes on Cranberry Fold Court than this wind turbine would be

I agree with Michael. It's not as if this is going to 'spoil' anything.

I find your post quite cheeky actually. What do you think the residents of Clitheroe and Waddington would say if these large wind turbine applications started going in without any form of protection for the residents? You cannot even turn a stone over without without an almighty fuss.

If you are trying to illicit a reaction with an unsubstantiated comment you won't get one from me on here. However, keep your eye on these pages and when we have the public meeting i am happy to discuss your point with you face to face.

Many Thanks

Well if we do not want a renewable energy source in this location how about a good old fashioned coal fired power plant - now that's a great view :-).

Remember: Earth first - we can destroy the other planets later.
