Library’s Jubilee art cash prizes handed to children
3:09pm Tuesday 26th June 2012 in Darwen
DARWEN Library was packed for a coffee morning at which £160 in prize money was handed out to primary school children in a Jubilee art competition.
There were 300 entries for the event, organised by the Friends of Darwen Library and sponsored by the town’s Civic Society.
The junior and senior section winners were Hollie John, seven, of St Paul’s, Hoddlesden, and James Angel, eight, of St Cuthbert’s, who each received £50.
Runners up were Kieran Carroll, seven, of St Stephen’s, Tockholes, and Ellen Borg, 10, of St Joseph’s.
Eight children each won £5 for their highly commended efforts.
They were Kasey Murray of St James’, Lower Darwen, Kielan Diffin of St Cuthbert’s, Freya Julien of St Joseph’s, Rebeah Akhtar of Sudell, Zack Holden of St Barnabas, Khafifa Akbar of Sudell, Cian Howarth of Holy Trinity and Georgia Hind of St Peter’s.
James’s painting will now feature on the poster for this year’s Darwen Gala, on August 18.
