Waste transfer station plans for Darwen

WASTE giants Sita have unveiled plans for a waste transfer station and fuel creation plant in Darwen.

Proposals have been drawn up and submitted to the borough council for Darwen Resource Recovery Park, Lower Eccleshill Road, on the former Wolstenholme International ink works.

Each year around 50,000 tonnes of waste would be processed using the facility, with around 36 loads being brought per day, between 7am and 7pm.

The firm says that the noise levels for people living at the nearby travellers’ site should not exceed 43 decibels and would be no worse than that generated by the Crown Paints site, also in Lower Eccleshill Road.

Some of the materials recovered, which could be reusable as fuel, will be baled and sent to be thermally treated elsewhere.

The remainder will be sent for landfill or dealt with at an adjacent materials recycling unit, which was given planning permission in February.

Good to see they have taken the affect such a project will have on the travellers. Not that it should affect them as they will be travelling.

Lol and I'm a Darwener. I have heard a rumour that they are rounding up the chavs and taking the in the wagons to be processed into Soylent green. There is plenty of meat on most of the single parents in Darwen.

You have my deepest sympathy and I hope you survive it in some unimaginable way. Being from Darwen that is.

just been tinking about those poor travellers down there that are stuck between a scrapyard, power station, sewage treatment plant and now a recyling centre!
It might not be noisy but it's certainly going to get very stinky.
