MORE rubbish has been dumped in a back alley in an area of Darwen blighted by fly-tippers.

Unwanted chairs and a mattress were among the huge amount of junk in the alley behind Snape Street.

It is the latest in a long line of problems in the area – in April Sudell councillor Roy Davies branded the alley behind Preston Street, which is next to Snape Street, as the ‘dirtiest in the borough’.

Back in January, the Lancashire Telegraph reported that Sudell councillor Paul Browne, who lives in Greenway Street, was calling on people and the council to name and shame the area’s litterbugs.

Speaking about the latest mess in Snape Street, Coun Browne said: “It looks like they have chucked their entire house out into the back.

“The council must know who all that belongs to, it is right outside their back door. They need to go round and tell them to get it shifted. We need to be prosecuting these people as it is not fair on everyone else who gets tarred with the same brush.”

Coun Browne said that particular area was becoming a real problem.

He said: “In that area, particularly Snape Street and Preston Street, it is a disgrace.

“And the main culprits live in the area.

“The council doesn’t need to go far to find them as people won’t travel miles to dump rubbish, they will put it outside their house.”

Blackburn with Darwen Council’s executive member for environmental sustainability and improvement Coun Faryad Hussain said: “We are investigating this incident and urge people to come forward if they have any information regarding it.

“In keeping with the Your Call campaign, we need more people take responsibility for the places that they live and to show respect for their neighbours.

“Dumped waste like this shows a total disregard for others as well as being unsightly, attracting vermin and a fire hazard.”
