Name and shame for Darwen fly-tippers

FLY-tippers are being named and shamed in an anti-litter campaign by Darwen Town Council.

Councillors have spoken out about the amount of rubbish in back streets throughout the town.

And now, people prosecuted by Blackburn with Darwen Council for fly-tipping will have their names displayed in the noticeboard out-side Darwen Town Hall.

Coun Dave Smith said there were no full addresses published, just the name and street.

He said: “It is a good idea to be naming and shaming these people. The rubbish in some of the back streets is appalling. It is a small minority of people and they need to know the consequences.

“Some think it is about people putting rubbish in the wrong bins, but it is not. This is people who are piling rubbish up in the back yards. How hard is it to put it in the bin?

“The only way they will learn is through a fine.”

Coun Smith said the current list was slightly out of date, with a further eight names waiting to be added.

The borough executive member for environmental improvement and sustainability, Coun Faryad Hussain, said: “We are very proud of our prosecution rates for people who have been caught repeatedly fly-tipping and we will prosecute those who continue with this anti-social behaviour.

“This sort of behaviour goes completely against the spirit of the Your Call campaign, which promotes community spirit across the borough.”

Wander around either Blackburn or Darwen and you will see litter wherever you go. That’s the problem and obviously it is not being dealt with satisfactorily. Therefore rather than keep bleating about the same problem again and again why not look at the problem with fresh eyes then do something about it. The bin collection service that we do have seem not to be able to do the job properly. Too much to do and not enough time to do it properly seems to be the main problem therefore an unbiased time and motion study to sort that problem out is the first obvious solution.

Then if the problem is money?
Then use the money wasted on Jack Straw‘s retirement status!

These dirty people will soon get wise to this and so long as there is nothing in the rubbish that identifies them then they will just carry their rubbish a few doors down the ally and leave it outside someone elses property, even if you see the culprip doing it most people will choose to ignore it as it would bring trouble with the neighbours and what are the council then going to do? DNA tests.

I want the names and address of the binmen who spill the bins rubbish on the road sides or in the back allies.
We have noticed that they do not always pickup what they spill, so under law, they are classed as breakin the law, under "littering" that comes with a fixed penelty. Time to follow the bin men and make money for the council coffers

The refuge collection in Hollins Grove is a laugh. Go around the backs and see the mess that the bin-men leave, they are paid to pick up all litter that is discharged from the bin to the lorry put on times a lot of the rubbish is left on the streets. Who do's one blame???

Do yourself a favour then and film it openly so the binmen know what you are doing, even if they don't ask what your doing make a point of telling them, who knows it may have a dramtic effect.
