POLICE have received several reports about the use of motorbikes at the Manor Road entrance to the Moors leading up to Darwen Tower.

A local horse riding group have reported concerns after several of their members were startled by the bikes in the area.

Patrols have been stepped up and officers will be taking action against any motorcyclists found to be using the area.

Community Beat Manager PC Steve Jeffrey said: "These motorbikes are causing annoyance to horse riders and walkers who have been disturbed by their anti-social riding.

"The bikes are also causing damage to the paths and the moors.

"With the summer approaching, there maybe even more of these bikes around and we want to be sure that everyone understands exactly how they can be ridden safely and without breaking the law.

"Anyone caught riding a motorbike illegally could see the bike seized and be faced with a substantial recovery fee.

"Riders could also face court proceedings, a fine and points on their licence.

"This legislation is designed to protect the public and the riders and we hope that anyone with a bike will heed our warnings."

Police are encouraging anyone with concerns about the illegal or dangerous use motorcycles in public areas to note the colour and any other distinguishing features and contact them on 0845 1 25 35 45.
