THE future of the Blue Lagoon is to be decided by the people of Belmont.
The attractive stretch of water, near Belmont, is nearly empty after its owner pulled the plug because he cannot afford the cost of meeting Environment Agency flood safety standards.
Its swift disappearance sparked outrage, and thousands of people have joined an internet campaign to save it.
Not everyone in Belmont is convinced, however.
And now the people of the village will be asked whether they want to save the reservoir or leave it empty.
Question-naires will be sent out to all of the village's 540 residents asking them what they would like to see happen to the Blue Lagoon.
The consultation will have a multiple choice format from a list of options, but will have space for people to make comments.
The options have not yet been decided, as they are dependent on possible solutions being approved and priced by an inspecting engineer, but they are likely to include refilling it or leaving it empty.
