MP backs councillor in Darwen refuse collection row

6:41pm Friday 12th March 2010

MP Janet Anderson has come out in support of the Mayor of Darwen about the refuse collection in the town.

Coun Paul Browne criticised residents in Sudell ward for putting the wrong items in recycling bins, meaning they were not collected.

But he said the council was to blame for a lack of information on bin collections, and letting waste pile up was a case of ‘two wrongs not making a right’.

Mrs Anderson said: “It is a shambles. No one knows what to put out when.

"One bin every two weeks, another every week. It is no wonder people are confused.

“And then, when there is a collection, rubbish is left all over the place.

"And I was really surprised to see Coun Browne’s comments about a yellow bin.

"I was not aware we had a yellow bin.

“So well done, Coun Browne. Let’s hope you can make the council sit up and take notice.

"We deserve better in Darwen.”
