EAST Lancashire firm Bglobal has clinched a deal which will see its energy ‘smart meters’ installed in 23,000 schools.
The Commercial Road-based company has signed a contract with British Gas covering schools across England.
The smart meters will allow education bosses to read real-time displays of how much energy is being used by the school.
Meanwhile, Bglobal has also struck a £7million deal with energy giant Npower which will see it supply business customers with smart meter reading devices over the next year.
The announcement came as the firm said it had recovered from January’s big freeze, after installing 4,200 smart meters during February.
Bglobal revealed it had suffered during the cold snap as engineers struggled to get to homes, schools and businesses.
Chief executive Tony Barnes said: “We are pleased to support British Gas and the Government in the ambition of putting a smart meter into every school in the UK.”
Bglobal employs 100 people in Darwen.
