Darwen councillor to stand down after 14 years

VETERAN Darwen councillor Dave Hollings will not be seeking re-election in May.
The Sunnyhurst representative for Labour has been a borough councillor for 14 years, but is standing down due to personal demands on his time.
In the last two years he and his wife have had two children and Mr Hollings also has a full-time job.
He said: “Representing the people of Sunnyhurst Ward is a huge honour and not one to be taken lightly.
“I do not believe that anyone should seek public office, nor carry on in that office, if they are not able to give their full commitment to the people whom they represent.”
"I am not prepared to be a second best councillor and I do not think people of Sunnyhurst deserve this.
“I am not retiring from politics. I will continue to be involved in the Labour Party."

Agree, Darwen Red - time for old grumpy knickers Smith to stand. I predict he would walk it, as unlike For Darwen Dave Smith is actually for Darwen and not For Ego and personal glorification.

Think For Darwen should rename themselves as Nothing For Darwen.

i am aware of the quotes - but my understanding is that it is not an electoral leaflet and consequently does not breach any electoral code.

I have checked the other article three times now and see ABSOLUTELY NO REFERENCE to the word ILLEGAL. Perhaps you can show me where it says that.

"Concerns", "investigated", "procedure" - no none of that about illegal. Nobody arrested. So, I ask you once again, what is illegal in the leaflet.

Karen - I assume you know Darwen Red so after you have told me what is a lie in the leaflet - then, perhaps, you could ask Darwen Red to answer what is illegal in the document and also request him to expand on what 4D has achieved in it's tenure. Just one thing since it has been elected would be a start. I look forward to both replies.

I remember on an 4D leaflet a lovely picture of the Hollywood Bowl and an image of the 30,000 seater Nebraska Gridiron Stadium. Remind me why that was on the leaflet again?

All but one of the FDP voted for a bus lane, this has never been voted on in full council
They voted to close Darwen collection hall, again this has never been voted on in full council

Sorry Dave, but how will you ever find them, they don’t exist any more. Unless your referring to the “NEW” pretending to be a labour party ones that is? You know the ones. Where all the leaders are now very, very wealthy. Three houses, Three jags, you know the ones.

There was a motion to Council asking for the bus lane proposal to be taken away and looked at again. All For Darwen Councillors but one (Cllr Meleady) voted against this motion. So I suppose you could argue that they did not vote for the bus lane, they voted not to look at the proposal again - but this let it go forward.
The issue of Darwen Collection Hall was included in the Coalition Council's budget. For Darwen Councillors voted for the budget as a whole. So i suppose you could argue that they did not vote specifically to close Darwen collection hall on some days.

And if the 'For Darwen' Party had voted against the 'coalition' budget proposals Darwen Town Hall collection point would now be open on 5 days.
