A MAN in his 50s has died after a suspected fall from a bridge.

Police were called shortly after midday to reports a man had been found with injuries in Bolton Road in Darwen.

Officers and paramedics attended but the man was pronounced dead a short time after.

Police said it is believed he fell from a bridge and his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Officers sealed off an area near India Mill in Darwen due to an investigation into the incident this afternoon.

Ambulances, police cars and a blue forensics tent were spotted at the business centre.

Police left the scene at around 4pm.

Witnesses said the entrance to the site was cordoned off by police along with a car park.

John Pocock, a Darwen resident said: “I went past in the Bolton direction and there were up to 10 police vehicles there, around half of them with their lights on.

“Twenty minutes later I was passing in the opposite direction, the lower part and the lower part of a car ramp was taped off. Officers were at the top of the ramp and about six vehicles were still in attendance.”

Police said a file on the incident will now be passed on to the coroner.

A police spokesman said: "It is believed he fell from a bridge.

"Officers and paramedics attended but sadly the man, in his 50s, was pronounced dead a short time after.

"His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner."
